NIA Region X became a regional office by virtue of memorandum circular # 12, s. 1978 providing for the regionalization scheme in the island of Mindanao. Effective April 1, 1978, REgion 8-A was retitled as Region 10 with the regional seat in Cagayan de Oro CIty covering seven (7) provinces and seven (7) cities of Northern MIndanao; viz, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, MIsamis Occidental and Surigao del Norte, and the cities are; Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan City, Gingoog City, Oroquieta City, Ozamis City, Surigao City and Tangub City. With the creation of CARAGA Region in May 1996, through Republic Act 7901, the four (4) big provinces; namely; Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Surigao del NOrte with all their NISs and CISs were taken out from NIA-Region 10. Making Region 10 limits to six (6) provinces specifically; Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bukidnon while the provinces of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte from Region 12 were joined through the mandate of NIA MC # 47 s. 2002 dated July 25, 2002.
